Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi of maintaining digital silence for about 10 days while in Pakistan, where his visa permissions were altered by the country’s Interior Ministry. Sarma expressed concerns over Gogoi’s activities during this period, suggesting possible ‘training’ sessions.
Sarma highlighted a significant change in Gogoi’s behavior following his visit to Pakistan in December 2013, just before becoming a Lok Sabha MP in 2014. The Chief Minister implied that Gogoi’s subsequent focus on sensitive national security issues in Parliament raised suspicions of potential influence by Pakistani intelligence.
Additionally, Sarma raised objections to Gogoi’s stay at the Chief Minister’s bungalow in Assam after his alleged training in Pakistan, emphasizing the security risks posed by someone with such connections. The Chief Minister underscored the seriousness of allegations involving Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Gogoi, a Congress MP and Deputy Leader in Parliament.
Sarma emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that the involvement of a sitting Member of Parliament like Gogoi in matters related to Pakistan warranted a thorough investigation beyond routine procedures.
