Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s ambitious hydropower plans during a discussion in the Assam Assembly. Arunachal Pradesh aims to generate 30,000 MW of electricity through hydropower projects, with significant progress already made on projects totaling 3,000 MW and initiation of work on projects for 10,000 MW.
Sarma emphasized that completing these projects within a decade could double Arunachal Pradesh’s GDP compared to Assam. He noted the contrast in project implementation between the two states, with Arunachal Pradesh experiencing less opposition and delays, particularly in the realm of large infrastructure projects like hydropower.
The Chief Minister praised the cooperation of Arunachal Pradesh’s residents in supporting the hydropower projects, including agreeing to relocation for the state’s development. Sarma credited the state’s growth to the populace’s readiness to make tough decisions for long-term economic benefits, positioning Arunachal Pradesh as a rapidly advancing region in terms of infrastructure and energy development.
Sarma stressed the importance of development-focused policies and collaboration between people and governments to attract investments and drive economic progress, underscoring the need for consensus and public backing for sustainable growth.
