Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the BJP lacks effective opposition in the majority of Assembly constituencies in the state, attributing this to development-focused governance that has garnered strong public support. Sarma, speaking in Mariani, highlighted the limited opposition presence in around 90 to 95 Assembly seats in Assam.
He criticized the Congress and other opposition parties for their diminished political relevance, citing a lack of vision and organizational strength. Sarma expressed confidence in the BJP’s popularity due to significant development in Assam, emphasizing infrastructure growth, welfare schemes, and improved governance as key factors.
The Chief Minister underscored the government’s efforts in areas like roads, bridges, healthcare, education, and employment, which have enhanced public trust in the BJP. He also faulted opposition parties for their failure to resonate with public aspirations, noting internal conflicts and political confusion within their ranks.
Sarma mentioned ongoing discussions on seat-sharing among BJP allies, assuring that these talks will be finalized soon. He indicated that the BJP-led alliance’s seat-sharing arrangements will be completed by the first week of March, signaling a coordinated approach leading up to the elections.
