Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi for holding political discussions in Jharkhand, stating that Assam’s politics should not be influenced from outside the state. Sarma expressed surprise at Gogoi’s visit to Jharkhand, highlighting that such interactions are uncommon for Assam politicians. The visit by Gogoi and senior Congress leader Jitendra Singh to Ranchi coincides with political activities preceding the upcoming elections in Assam.
The Congress leaders met with Hemant Soren, the leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), to seek support for Congress in Assam instead of the regional Raijor Dal led by Akhil Gogoi. This move follows reports of increasing communication between Raijor Dal and JMM leaders, hinting at a potential alliance. Recent closed-door discussions in Guwahati involving leaders from Jharkhand explored the prospects of collaboration among Raijor Dal, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, and the newly formed Jai Bharat Party.
The political landscape in Assam is witnessing strategic alignments ahead of the upcoming elections, with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s recent interactions in Assam reflecting this trend. Sarma emphasized that the people of Assam will determine the course of state politics amidst these evolving developments. Gogoi’s visit to Ranchi is viewed as an effort by the Congress leadership to secure JMM’s support for Congress over regional parties like Raijor Dal.
