Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that there would be no lack of funds for flood relief and rehabilitation efforts, emphasizing that the Central government shoulders most of the financial responsibility for disaster management. Speaking in Charaideo district, he pledged full support to families affected by the floods, who have suffered significant losses of homes, livestock, and valuables.

Sarma clarified that the state government receives upfront funds from the Centre for relief operations, with the option to request additional allocations if needed beyond the standard provisions. He assured that in case of extraordinary circumstances, they could seek further aid from the Central government or even directly from the Prime Minister to ensure ample support for the affected populace.

The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s immediate focus on rescue and relief operations, with various agencies like the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and civil administration actively engaged in severely impacted regions. Despite facing challenges due to submerged and inaccessible villages, efforts are ongoing to provide assistance to those in need.

Sarma acknowledged the ongoing assessment of damages and pledged ongoing updates to relief measures as floodwaters recede. He expressed concerns that the actual losses might surpass initial estimates, emphasizing the government’s commitment to aiding flood-affected families until full rehabilitation and restoration of normalcy in the affected districts.
