Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the remarkable transformation seen in the Northeast in the past ten years. He mentioned that the region has shifted its focus from insurgency and instability to peace, infrastructure development, connectivity, and economic advancement. Sarma emphasized that Assam has greatly benefited from the peaceful environment, leading to accelerated growth and investments.
The Chief Minister shared his views on social media, stating that the Northeast’s development narrative has evolved from conflict to progress, with Assam reaping the rewards of the prevailing peace. He highlighted the positive impact of 12 major peace agreements signed in the region since 2014, contributing significantly to stability and conflict resolution.
As part of a campaign marking 12 years of development in the Northeast under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Sarma shared data indicating over 10,000 militants surrendered in the region, showcasing the success of peace initiatives. The campaign also noted a substantial decrease in civilian deaths related to insurgency and a significant reduction in insurgency incidents, reflecting a shift towards peace, progress, and stability in the Northeast.
The development journey in the Northeast has been a key focus for the central government, with substantial investments in various sectors like roads, railways, airports, and digital connectivity. Assam’s improved security environment has attracted investments, boosted tourism, and expedited infrastructure projects, leading to broader socio-economic growth in the region.
