Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized Assam’s economic progress and global connections during the state’s 77th Republic Day celebrations in Dibrugarh. Sarma pointed out that Assam’s growth rate has exceeded the national average, with a projected Gross Domestic Product of Rs 10 lakh crore by 2027, making it one of the fastest-growing states in India.
The Chief Minister highlighted Assam’s debut at the World Economic Forum as a significant milestone, showcasing its shift from an underdeveloped area to a globally integrated investment hub. He expressed confidence in Assam’s economic potential, citing increased national and international interest. Sarma also praised the state’s advancements in various sectors like culture, employment, healthcare, and peace-building over the past five years.
Sarma recognized the international recognition of traditional Assamese dance forms and the elevation of Assamese to classical language status. He paid tribute to the nation’s martyrs and emphasized the importance of Republic Day in upholding India’s democratic principles. The Chief Minister credited Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as the key architect of the Constitution, guiding India’s democratic framework.
In the realm of employment, Sarma highlighted the government’s transparent recruitment efforts, resulting in job opportunities for over 1.56 lakh young individuals. He attributed the state’s sustained peace and stability to agreements like the Bodo Accord and the Karbi peace agreement. Additionally, Sarma announced a pioneering healthcare initiative, making Assam the first state to introduce proton therapy facilities in government hospitals for advanced cancer care.
The event held symbolic significance as it marked the second consecutive year that the Chief Minister led Republic Day celebrations in Dibrugarh. Sarma emphasized Dibrugarh’s evolving role as Assam’s emerging second capital, with the state maintaining the tradition of celebrating Independence Day in Guwahati and Republic Day in Upper Assam.
