Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that he predicted the BJP’s impressive showing in the Assembly elections, noting his assessment on April 9 after polling ended. Sarma shared on X that the party surpassed expectations, gaining an extra seat and receiving what he called a “historic blessing” from Assam’s people in the 2026 Assembly polls.
Expressing his gratitude, Sarma expressed feeling “truly humbled” by the mandate, allowing the BJP to secure a third consecutive term in power in the state. He emphasized that the election outcome signifies the public’s confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the state government’s governance approach.
The BJP-led alliance clinched a significant victory in the elections, solidifying its position in Assam and further weakening opposition parties, notably the Congress, which lagged considerably in the final seat count. The BJP emerged victorious with 82 seats, while the Congress managed to secure only 19 constituencies.
Earlier, Sarma hailed the BJP-led NDA’s performance in Assam as a “historic mandate,” highlighting the electorate’s endorsement for the party to govern for a third successive term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Following the BJP’s sweeping win, Sarma stated that the verdict reflects the public’s backing for ongoing efforts to preserve Assam’s identity while propelling development initiatives.
He underscored that the government’s persistent focus on governance, infrastructure development, and socio-economic progress has garnered trust from various regions and communities. Sarma expressed gratitude to voters on behalf of the party and its allies for the overwhelming support received.
