Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the appointment of senior BJP leader Ranjit Kumar Das as the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. Speaking in the Assembly, CM Sarma commended Das’ political journey, confidence, experience, and commitment to democratic values. Sarma acknowledged the challenges faced by Das during the election from the Sarbhog constituency, expressing initial concerns about the outcome.
Das’ victory in the 2026 Assembly polls from Sarbhog with a significant margin highlighted his confidence and support. Sarma emphasized that Das’ elevation as Speaker was not just a personal achievement but a proud moment for numerous grassroots BJP workers. He expressed optimism that Das’ extensive political experience and understanding of parliamentary traditions would make him a successful and respected Speaker.
CM Sarma stressed the importance of neutrality for Das in conducting Assembly proceedings, urging him to prioritize the nation and Assam over party interests. He underscored the BJP’s principle of ‘Nation First, Party Last,’ emphasizing the need for impartiality and respect for opposition voices. Sarma also noted that while maintaining political neutrality inside the House, Das would remain a significant political figure representing the people outside the Assembly.
