Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the importance of economic empowerment for youth in securing the state’s future. He inaugurated the distribution of the first installment of financial aid under Mukhya Mantrir Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan 2.0 for entrepreneurs from Jorhat, Golaghat, and Majuli districts. A total of 5,958 entrepreneurs received over Rs 59 crore in financial assistance, with beneficiaries from different categories.
Under the scheme’s second phase, the state plans to provide financial aid exceeding Rs 1,495 crore to around 74,444 aspiring entrepreneurs across Assam. Each beneficiary in the general category will receive Rs 2 lakh, while those in the professional category will receive Rs 5 lakh. The Chief Minister highlighted the challenges faced by Assam’s youth in securing government jobs and the need for more opportunities within the state to prevent migration for employment.
Sarma mentioned the government’s efforts to boost industrial growth through upcoming projects that are expected to create employment for a significant number of youths. Encouraging entrepreneurship and skill development, he urged young individuals to consider becoming job creators. Additionally, he announced plans to appoint 60,000 unemployed youths to teaching positions over the next two years, emphasizing the importance of utilizing financial assistance wisely.
