Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently inspected the ongoing construction of an international-standard cricket stadium and a high-performance swimming pool in Amingaon. The 20,000-seat cricket stadium is set to be finished in the coming months, with plans to secure additional land from the Railways for a multi-level parking facility to support the sports complex. The swimming pool, designed for high-performance training, will accommodate up to 40 swimmers simultaneously and is geared towards hosting national and international competitions.
The Chief Minister also assessed the development of hostels for athletes and coaches, with separate facilities planned for swimmers, badminton players, and cricket athletes. Sarma expressed confidence that the new sports infrastructure in Amingaon will complement the existing Sarusajai Sports Complex, enhancing Assam’s capacity to host major sporting events. He highlighted the state’s commitment to fostering young talent and positioning Assam as a prominent sports destination.
Additionally, Sarma visited the National Centre of Excellence for Badminton in Amingaon, praising it as a top-tier training facility that has produced national and international-level players. He announced plans for a new six-lane road connecting key locations in the area, aiming to improve connectivity to the National Highway and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati. The Chief Minister also inspected an adjacent inspection bungalow, suggesting enhancements to its aesthetics and functionality.
