Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for making serious allegations against him, likening it to a low-quality movie. Sarma highlighted the gravity of the accusations involving a Pakistani national and Gogoi’s spouse, stressing the significance of the issue due to Gogoi’s position as a Member of Parliament.
Sarma emphasized that the involvement of a sitting MP like Gogoi elevated the matter beyond a routine investigation. He underscored the seriousness of the allegations, particularly when a political figure is linked to Pakistan. The Chief Minister stated that the issue was thoroughly examined by a Special Investigation Team before being escalated for further inquiry.
Gogoi responded by criticizing the press conference as a failure and compared it unfavorably to his party’s successful Xomoy Parivartan Yatra. Sarma disclosed that the case was referred to a central agency after the state Cabinet recognized the broader implications of the allegations. The controversy stemmed from a viral photograph showing Gogoi at the Pakistan Embassy, which raised concerns due to the sensitive nature of India’s relations with Pakistan.
