Assam Congress President and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi has called on the state government to increase its efforts in providing rescue, relief, and rehabilitation support to areas affected by floods. Gogoi emphasized the importance of ensuring timely assistance to all affected families, especially in the wake of the ongoing crisis.

Gogoi recently visited flood-affected regions within his Jorhat parliamentary constituency. During his visit, he engaged with displaced residents, assessed the situation on the ground, and distributed relief materials to those impacted by the flooding. He expressed deep concern over the widespread devastation caused by the floods, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian aid in Assam.

The Congress leader noted that many parts of Assam, including Jorhat, are grappling with a severe flood situation, leading to significant displacement and damage to infrastructure. Gogoi underscored the necessity for continuous supply of relief materials, provision of safe shelter, access to healthcare services, and rehabilitation assistance for the affected population. He also stressed the importance of prompt compensation for families who have lost loved ones and the restoration of essential services in flood-affected areas.

According to the latest update from the Assam government, over 7.27 lakh individuals have been affected across 25 districts due to floods between April 29 and July 21. The floods have resulted in 31 casualties, with 95 relief camps accommodating 18,574 displaced individuals. Various agencies, including the NDRF, SDRF, Army, Assam Police, and district administrations, are actively engaged in relief and rescue operations.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Assam over the next four days. This forecast raises concerns about a potential exacerbation of the flood situation in vulnerable regions, necessitating heightened preparedness and response efforts.
