Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi announced that no Congress leaders, including the newly elected MLAs, will be present at the oath-taking ceremony of the incoming BJP-led government in Assam. Gogoi criticized such events, alleging they have become more about politics and elections rather than upholding constitutional values.
Gogoi pointed out the contrast between PM Modi’s recent advice on frugality and the extravagant arrangements for the oath-taking ceremony in Guwahati. He questioned the government’s adherence to the Prime Minister’s call for reduced spending and public transport usage.
The Congress leader emphasized the need for political leadership to set a positive example. He expressed concerns that such ceremonies often overshadow constitutional principles with political agendas. Gogoi stressed that the Congress party would maintain a constructive opposition stance in the state, focusing on issues affecting various segments of society.
The BJP-led government, set to be headed by Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma, is scheduled to take the oath at the Khanapara Veterinary College playground in Guwahati, with the presence of key National Democratic Alliance leaders.
