Assam Congress MLA Rakibuddin Ahmed expressed that the departure of former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not significantly impact the party. Ahmed likened the Congress party to an ocean, stating that individual exits do not weaken its core. He confidently stated that the Congress will secure victory in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha.
Bhupen Kumar Borah’s resignation from the Congress, after serving as APCC president during crucial political phases, has sparked speculation and is viewed as a setback for the opposition party. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent visit to Borah’s residence has fueled rumors of his impending switch to the BJP. Sarma confirmed that Borah is set to formally join the BJP on February 22, potentially bolstering the ruling party’s organizational strength before the upcoming polls.
Despite the political turbulence surrounding Borah’s exit, Congress leaders emphasize that the party’s grassroots support and collective leadership remain robust. Ahmed reiterated that individual political choices cannot undermine the party’s deep-rooted ideological foundation and widespread backing. As Assam gears up for elections, the evolving political dynamics and realignments in the state are being closely monitored.
