Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi slammed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s administration, accusing the BJP-led government of undermining democratic rights and deceiving the people. Gogoi emphasized that the people of Assam reject governance through fear and misinformation, asserting their power as the true rulers.
The Congress recently held a mass induction event ahead of the state Assembly elections, where several prominent leaders from rival parties joined, bolstering the party’s preparations for the upcoming polls. Notable figures like Manoj Kumar Mahanta and others switched to the Congress, marking a significant political shift.
Gogoi criticized the BJP for alleged electoral manipulation and voter suppression, particularly targeting tribal, OBC, SC, and minority communities. He pledged to safeguard voting rights and prevent the inclusion of non-residents in the electoral rolls. Additionally, Gogoi raised concerns about the handling of the Zubeen Garg case, accusing the government of interference in the justice system.
The Congress leader outlined the party’s vision of fostering unity in Assam by addressing regional disparities and providing lasting solutions to minority, land, and community issues. Meanwhile, APCC Mahila Congress President Mira Borthakur highlighted the growing public trust in the party, while newly inducted leaders expressed their commitment to serving the community and upholding democratic values.
