Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi responded to senior leader Pradyut Bordoloi’s decision to join the BJP, calling it a “personal choice.” Gogoi emphasized that the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam are focused on liberating the state from fear and mafiaraj rather than individual personalities.
Gogoi highlighted that despite being offered significant opportunities by the Congress, including representing the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat and being a Member of Parliament, Bordoloi opted to switch to the BJP. Gogoi stressed that the election in Assam goes beyond individual leaders and is about combating the influence of Himanta Biswa Sarma and dismantling the prevailing mafiaraj.
The Congress leader pointed out a prevailing atmosphere of fear in Assam, stating that the populace is eager for change and to break free from the climate of fear instigated by Himanta Biswa Sarma. Gogoi expressed confidence in his party’s support across Assam and its ability to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
Dismissing speculations about Bordoloi’s departure being linked to disagreements over candidate selection for a specific Assembly seat, Gogoi clarified that such claims were baseless. He noted that while differences exist within political parties, they should not be the sole reason for severing ties and joining a rival party. Bordoloi’s exit is viewed as a setback for the Congress as they strive to present a united front ahead of the Assembly polls.
