More than 10.6 lakh individuals have been impacted by the ongoing floods in Assam, as confirmed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The floods have affected 25 districts of the state, with the government working tirelessly to provide aid. Sarma assured continuous supply of food, water, medicines, and essential items to those affected.
The flood situation has affected 10,63,216 people between April 29 and July 23, as per the latest bulletin shared by the Chief Minister. A total of 77 revenue circles and 2,023 villages have been hit by the deluge. Currently, 162 relief camps are operational, accommodating 41,264 people, with 1,072 relief distribution centers offering assistance.
Tragically, the floods have resulted in 47 fatalities, with Charaideo recording the highest number of deaths at 10. Additionally, eight individuals are reported missing. Extensive damage to residential properties has been noted, with 401 houses completely destroyed and 1,856 partially damaged.
Rescue operations have led to the evacuation of 28,912 individuals from vulnerable areas. Chief Minister Sarma plans to conduct a high-level review meeting soon to evaluate the flood situation and the effectiveness of ongoing relief efforts.
