Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a 2% rise in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for state government employees and pensioners, increasing the rate from 58% to 60%, effective from July. This decision is set to benefit over eight lakh serving employees and pensioners in the state. CM Sarma emphasized the government’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce and retired employees, stating that they are crucial partners in Assam’s growth journey.

The increased amount will be disbursed from July, offering additional financial assistance to employees and pensioners amidst escalating living expenses. The hike in DA and DR aims to help government personnel and retired staff cope with inflation and sustain their purchasing power. This revision, though entailing a substantial financial burden on the state government, will bring relief to numerous beneficiaries.

Dearness Allowance is provided to active government employees, while Dearness Relief is granted to pensioners to counter the effects of price hikes and inflation. These rates are periodically adjusted by governments in line with economic conditions. The recent increment is part of a series of initiatives by the Assam government to enhance employee welfare and ensure prompt payment of salaries, pensions, and retirement benefits. The Chief Minister reiterated the significant role played by government employees and pensioners in the state’s progress and governance, affirming continued efforts to enhance their welfare and financial stability.

With this latest revision, Assam’s DA and DR rates will reach 60% from July, benefiting over eight lakh employees and pensioners statewide.
