Guwahati, Aug 4 (IANS) Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday completed his self‑enumeration for Census 2027 through the online Self Enumeration Portal and appealed to the people of the state to actively participate in the nationwide population count, describing it as a crucial exercise for effective governance and development planning.

The Governor completed the process at Lok Bhavan in the presence of Director‑cum‑Chief Principal Census Officer Biswajit Pegu and other officials. Calling the digital self‑enumeration “simple, secure, transparent and user‑friendly,” Acharya said the online facility enables citizens to fulfil their national responsibility conveniently while contributing to the creation of an accurate and reliable national database.

He said the Census serves as the foundation for evidence‑based policymaking, effective governance and equitable delivery of public services across the country.

“The Census forms the basis for planning and implementation of welfare schemes, balanced allocation of resources and informed development policies. Accurate data is essential for ensuring inclusive and sustainable development,” the Governor said.

Appealing to all eligible residents of Assam, Acharya urged them to complete self‑enumeration for themselves and their family members through the online portal by August 16.

He also requested people to extend full cooperation to enumerators during the house‑to‑house enumeration scheduled between August 17 and September 15 by providing accurate and complete information.

The Governor emphasised that active public participation would help ensure a comprehensive and error‑free Census, strengthening development planning at both the state and national levels.

He encouraged citizens to motivate family members, neighbours, friends and colleagues to participate, saying collective efforts would contribute to building a robust database for future policymaking.

Officials said the self‑enumeration facility has been introduced to make the Census process more accessible and efficient by allowing citizens to submit household details online before the commencement of physical enumeration.

Director‑cum‑Chief Principal Census Officer Biswajit Pegu and senior officials of the Census organisation were present during the Governor’s self‑enumeration at Lok Bhavan.
