The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning in various parts of the state over the next few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall activity in Assam, with some areas likely to experience intense showers. Thunderstorms and lightning could lead to urban waterlogging, flash floods, disrupted road traffic, and localized landslides in vulnerable hilly regions.
The IMD’s district-wise forecast indicates that districts in western, central, upper, and southern Assam, including Kamrup Metro, Kamrup (Rural), Dhubri, Barpeta, and others, are expected to face heavy rain and thunderstorms. Guwahati is predicted to have cloudy skies with intermittent rain or thundershowers throughout the upcoming week. The city recently saw 7.4 mm of rainfall at the airport, with temperatures ranging from 26.6 to 32.9 degrees Celsius.
The ASDMA has urged residents, especially those in low-lying and landslide-prone areas, to stay vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall periods. District administrations are actively monitoring the weather situation, and emergency response mechanisms are on standby. Daily commuters and long-distance travelers are advised to plan their journeys carefully, stay updated on official weather alerts, and follow guidance from local authorities. The ASDMA will provide timely weather updates through its website and social media channels.
