Assam Minister Atul Bora has been assigned the role of overseeing the Parliamentary Affairs Department temporarily before the upcoming session of the Assam Legislative Assembly. This decision was made by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya based on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recommendation. Bora, who is also the president of the Asom Gana Parishad, currently manages various crucial departments such as Panchayat and Rural Development, Implementation of Assam Accord, Border Protection, and Excise.
The first sitting of the newly elected Assembly is set to begin shortly, running from Thursday until May 26. During this four-day session, important tasks like the swearing-in of newly elected legislators and other election-related formalities will take place. The appointment of Atul Bora to oversee the Parliamentary Affairs Department is seen as significant by political analysts due to the department’s pivotal role in coordinating government activities within the Assembly and ensuring the smooth conduct of legislative proceedings.
The recent expansion of Chief Minister Sarma’s cabinet included the addition of four new ministers: Rameswar Teli, Ajanta Neog, Charan Boro, and Atul Bora. Sarma had previously mentioned that the cabinet expansion process would be finalized after the Assembly session. The upcoming Assembly session is expected to address the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition in the new House, a decision likely to be made during the session. This session holds importance as it marks the first Assembly meeting following the formation of the new state government.
