Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika criticized the Congress party for its poor performance in the Assembly elections. He mentioned that the public rejected Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi’s strategy of seeking power with the support of “Miyas.” The BJP-led NDA secured a significant victory in the Assam Assembly elections, winning 82 out of 126 seats.
Hazarika accused Congress of becoming a “Muslim League” in the state and losing touch with the people of Assam. He highlighted the party’s electoral defeat due to alleged arrogance and disconnection from the public. The Minister claimed that Congress’s “New Greater Assam” slogan caused confusion among voters, leading to rejection by the electorate.
The BJP leader further alleged that Congress was relying politically on minority votes, emphasizing the support received from Muslim voters. Hazarika stated that the electorate decisively rejected what he termed as Congress’s “divisive politics” and reaffirmed their trust in Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership. The massive victory of the BJP-led NDA in the Assembly elections was seen as a reflection of this trust.
Hazarika expressed confidence in Sarma’s leadership, predicting his return as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term. He praised the people of Assam for their overwhelming support to the BJP government and its policies, leading to the landslide electoral outcome. The BJP is now poised to form the government in Assam for a third consecutive term, further solidifying its position in the state.
