Assam’s Public Health Engineering Minister, Krishnendu Paul, conducted a high-level meeting at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati to assess the progress of drinking water supply projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Lower Assam. Senior officials from the Public Health Engineering Department and district-level functionaries attended the review meeting to discuss the status of ongoing projects and the pace of work under the mission. The focus was on household tap water connections, infrastructure development, quality control measures, and timely project execution.
During the meeting, officials presented district-wise progress reports to the minister, highlighting challenges faced in implementing the schemes, especially in remote and geographically difficult areas. Minister Paul emphasized the importance of completing all projects within set timelines to ensure safe and sufficient drinking water for every rural household. He stressed the need for maintaining construction quality and ensuring prompt delivery of benefits to the intended beneficiaries without delays.
The minister also underscored the necessity of regular monitoring and coordination among field-level officers to address obstacles and expedite project implementation. He reviewed the operational efficiency, maintenance mechanisms, and consumer coverage of water supply schemes commissioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The mission’s goal is to provide Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to every rural household, guaranteeing access to safe drinking water for all.
Assam is actively engaged in infrastructure development under the Jal Jeevan Mission, with multiple projects at various stages of completion across the state. The meeting concluded with directives to enhance efforts to meet the mission’s objectives and enhance access to drinking water in rural areas of Lower Assam.
