Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the seizure of a significant consignment of banned Codeine Phosphate syrup valued at approximately Rs 2.1 crore by the Cachar Police. The interception took place in Cachar district following actionable intelligence inputs.
The truck carrying the banned substance was apprehended during a special operation conducted by the Cachar Police in southern Assam. Subsequently, a substantial quantity of Codeine Phosphate-containing cough syrup bottles was discovered in the vehicle.
One individual has been arrested in connection with the case, with ongoing investigations to determine the origin and intended destination of the seized consignment. Authorities suspect the involvement of an interstate drug trafficking network in transporting the narcotics through Assam.
This seizure forms part of the state government’s broader crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal narcotics trade, reflecting Assam’s commitment to combatting drug-related activities. Chief Minister Sarma has reiterated the administration’s dedication to eliminating drug peddlers and organized trafficking networks to ensure a drug-free Assam.
