Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Assam Police confiscated a significant amount of an intoxicating substance valued at approximately Rs 2.34 crore in Sribhumi district. Three individuals were taken into custody in connection with the incident. The operation, led by the Sribhumi Police, resulted in the recovery of 11,695 bottles of the intoxicating substance and the apprehension of the suspects.
The Chief Minister commended the district police for their efforts and emphasized the government’s dedication to the ongoing anti-drug campaign. He highlighted the value of the seized contraband, stating, “Some lessons are expensive. For this drug network, the bill came to Rs 2.34 crore.” CM Sarma also issued a strong warning to drug traffickers and organized smuggling networks in the state, reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and illegal substances.
The seizure is part of the state government’s continuous crackdown on drug trafficking as part of the ‘#AssamAgainstDrugs’ initiative. Authorities are actively investigating the origin and intended destination of the seized substance, as well as looking into potential interstate connections related to the smuggling operation. The government has stressed the importance of dismantling drug syndicates as a top priority, with law enforcement agencies conducting intelligence-based operations across Assam.
