The Assam Rifles are conducting patrols in Manipur’s Kamjong district to maintain peace and security amidst heightened tensions. Recent heavy firing and explosions near the India-Myanmar border prompted a swift response from the troops despite challenging conditions. Multiple rescue teams were deployed to secure affected houses and evacuate trapped civilians to safety.
The operation led to the safe rescue of 15 distressed villagers, including women and children, who were provided humanitarian assistance. Additionally, a Myanmarese woman received immediate medical support. The Assam Rifles also apprehended an armed cadre during search operations, seizing an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and ammunition.
Lieutenant Colonel Rawat emphasized the Assam Rifles’ commitment to protecting civilians and ensuring peace along the sensitive India-Myanmar border. The incident occurred in Kamjong district, one of the five Manipur districts sharing an unfenced international border with Myanmar. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the violence and directed security forces to restore peace and prevent further escalation.
Armed militants suspected to be from Kuki outfits attacked villages near the border, torching houses and causing residents to flee. The affected villages are situated close to the India-Myanmar border, with residents seeking refuge in nearby forests. Security forces, including the Assam Rifles, swiftly responded to the situation to bring it under control.
