Assam Rifles Director General (DG), Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, met with Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in New Delhi to address the current law and order situation in the state. The meeting took place at Manipur Bhawan, where the DG briefed the Chief Minister on the Assam Rifles’ role and activities in Manipur, the country’s oldest paramilitary force. Assam Rifles is tasked with safeguarding the India–Myanmar border across Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Nagaland.
The Chief Minister commended Assam Rifles for its pivotal role in restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur. Apart from border security responsibilities, Assam Rifles personnel are also involved in maintaining law and order in the state. The ongoing National Integration Tour, part of Assam Rifles’ civic action program, for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) representatives from Manipur’s Tengnoupal, Chandel, and Kakching districts, has reached Dimapur in Nagaland.
A delegation of 23 members, accompanied by 68 officials and troops, is on a 15-day journey to enhance national unity, civil–military cooperation, and governance perspectives. During their visit to Dimapur, the group engaged with Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 3 Corps, emphasizing civil–military synergy and the positive role of CSOs in community development and conflict resolution.
The interaction provided insights into the Indian Army and Assam Rifles’ roles in national security and regional peace in the Northeast. It facilitated dialogue on regional issues, security dynamics, and developmental efforts, fostering trust between armed forces and civil society. The delegation proceeded to Kohima for the next phase of the National Integration Tour, aiming to strengthen engagement and relations across the region.
