The Assam Rifles and other law-enforcement agencies have conducted operations in Mizoram and Manipur, resulting in the seizure of drugs valued at over Rs 18.33 crore. Seven drug peddlers have been arrested in these operations. In the past 24 hours, a total of more than Rs 57.33 crore worth of drugs have been confiscated, and ten drug peddlers have been apprehended in Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur.
In Mizoram’s Champhai district, Assam Rifles personnel set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post based on intelligence about narcotics trafficking. During this operation, 2.057 kg of heroin worth approximately Rs 15.42 crore was recovered from a suspicious two-wheeler. The paramilitary force is committed to securing the India-Myanmar border and promoting a drug-free environment in the region.
Another operation in Champhai district led to the interception of a Chinese-made Kenbo bike carrying 87.6 grams of heroin valued at around Rs 68.25 lakh. The individual transporting the contraband was identified as Tlana and handed over to the authorities for further investigation. In a separate incident in Mizoram’s Siaha district, two vehicles were intercepted, resulting in the seizure of Myanmar currency and the arrest of five individuals.
In Manipur, a joint operation by Assam Rifles and the state police in Senapati district led to the apprehension of one individual and the recovery of 268 grams of brown sugar valued at approximately Rs 53.60 lakh. The security forces are dedicated to combating drug trafficking and ensuring peace and security in the region. Additionally, a significant amount of illegal areca nuts were seized in Noney district, with a market value of about Rs 1.7 crore.
The operations underscore the ongoing efforts of Assam Rifles to combat illicit activities and maintain law and order in the region. Myanmar’s border with northeastern states serves as a crucial entry point for various drugs and contraband into India.
