Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), confiscated a significant quantity of poppy seeds valued at approximately Rs 1.31 crore in Assam’s Cachar district. The operation, triggered by specific intelligence inputs on contraband trafficking, resulted in the interception of a truck on Silchar Bypass Road. The seized consignment, weighing 8,764 kg, was being transported illegally.
Two individuals from Silchar were apprehended during the operation, and a Tata truck used for transporting the illicit goods, along with two mobile handsets, was seized. The recovered items, including the poppy seeds and the arrested persons, have been handed over to the DRI for further investigation and legal action. This successful operation underscores the collaborative efforts of security agencies to combat contraband movement in the northeastern region.
Assam Rifles emphasized its close coordination with the DRI and other law enforcement bodies to disrupt trafficking networks in the area. Recent intelligence-driven operations have led to significant seizures, disrupting smuggling activities. This latest seizure represents a crucial milestone in the ongoing fight against contraband trafficking, demonstrating the commitment of security forces to uphold law and order in the region. Investigators are now delving into the origins and intended destination of the seized consignment, probing potential connections to larger trafficking networks in the Northeast.
