Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans to set up seven dedicated facilities in New Delhi to cater to the needs of people from Assam visiting the national capital. These facilities, including three new complexes in Central Delhi and Dwarka, aim to enhance accommodation and community infrastructure for visitors. One of the upcoming complexes will feature a Naamghar, a traditional Assamese community prayer hall, along with a convention hall for cultural and religious activities.
The Chief Minister revealed that two community-specific facilities, Karbi Bhawan and Dimasa Bhawan, are currently under construction in Dwarka to provide accommodation and cultural spaces for the Karbi and Dimasa communities. Additionally, plans are in place for a Barak Bhawan to cater to residents of the Barak Valley region. These initiatives signify the government’s commitment to supporting students, patients, officials, job seekers, and other visitors from Assam in Delhi.
The existing Assam House in New Delhi has been a longstanding official guest house for the state, accommodating government delegations and eligible visitors. The new complexes are expected to significantly increase lodging capacity and promote Assam’s cultural heritage through community spaces like the proposed Naamghar and convention hall. These developments align with the government’s broader strategy to enhance facilities for Assamese individuals outside the state and preserve the region’s cultural legacy in major cities.
