Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Assam will soon have improved railway connectivity with the introduction of two new Amrit Bharat trains and the country’s first Vande Bharat sleeper coach trains. The first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express between Guwahati and Kolkata will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 17, aiming to enhance overnight rail travel and strengthen links between northeast and eastern India. Additionally, new train services connecting Dibrugarh to Lucknow and Guwahati to Rohtak via Delhi will be flagged off during the Prime Minister’s visit to Assam.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Assam will include witnessing the traditional Bodo dance ‘Bagurumba,’ showcasing the state’s cultural richness on a national platform. Furthermore, on January 18, the Prime Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the elevated corridor project in Kaziranga. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to balance conservation and connectivity issues in the region, emphasizing sustainable development.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, designed with a passenger-centric approach, will offer a comfortable travel experience with features such as cushioned berths, advanced suspension systems, noise-reduction technology, automatic doors, and a modern Passenger Information System. The new-generation train will consist of 16 coaches, including AC three-tier, AC two-tier, and First Class AC coaches, providing diverse travel options for passengers across different segments.
