Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state’s efforts towards a “Silver Revolution” in the poultry industry have resulted in a notable 28% increase in egg production during the 2024-25 fiscal year.
This growth in egg output is attributed to the government’s consistent support for the poultry sector, including incentives for farmers, improved access to quality chicks and feed, and enhanced veterinary and extension services, reducing the state’s reliance on external egg sources.
CM Sarma emphasized the significance of eggs in addressing nutritional deficiencies, especially among vulnerable groups, and highlighted the sector’s role in creating employment opportunities for small farmers and rural entrepreneurs.
Efforts are underway to further boost infrastructure, promote advanced poultry practices, and enhance market connections to sustain this positive momentum, with a focus on value addition, cold-chain development, and fair pricing mechanisms for producers.
The government remains dedicated to strengthening the livestock and allied sectors as crucial components of nutrition security, farmer empowerment, and inclusive growth, aiming for a self-reliant and healthier Assam.
