Two male students were reportedly attacked in a Sahyadri College bus in Chikkamagaluru city, Karnataka, for sitting beside a girl of a different religion. The incident occurred when a Muslim girl and two Hindu boys shared a seat on their way to college. This led to some Muslim students confronting one of the boys, Yogesh, for sitting next to the Muslim girl.
Yogesh was allegedly assaulted and had his mobile phone taken by the students. Another student, Jayanth, who tried to intervene, was also reportedly attacked by students identified as Salid and Rashid. All students involved in the incident are from Sahyadri College. Yogesh and Jayanth, who were friends with the Muslim girl, were targeted by Salid and Rashid.
The college administration informed the Basavanahalli police as the situation escalated. Police arrived at the scene, took the accused and victims to the police station, and initiated an investigation. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized that those resorting to vigilantism will face severe consequences, irrespective of their background. He warned against moral policing and stated a zero-tolerance policy towards such activities in the state.
