In Patna, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau apprehended an Assistant Registrar of Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh. The individual, identified as Sanullah Khan, was caught in the act during the bribe transaction. He was purportedly seeking the bribe to facilitate the renewal of an old college’s affiliation.
The complainant, Ramanand Mahto, claimed that all necessary fees for the Knowledge Resource Centre had been paid, and a Memorandum Order (MO) had been issued. Despite completing student admissions and examinations, official results were withheld. Mahto alleged that Sanullah Khan demanded Rs 2.5 lakh to proceed with the pending work.
Mahto further alleged that Sanullah Khan implied he was following instructions from the Vice-Chancellor, linking progress to the payment. The complainant also mentioned being instructed by the Vice-Chancellor to meet the Assistant Registrar. The Vigilance Department was alerted when the Block Resource Centre was found locked, leading to the arrest of Sanullah Khan after a trap was set during the bribe exchange.
The Vigilance Investigation Bureau has initiated a thorough inquiry into the matter. Initial investigations hint at possible involvement of higher authorities in the bribery demand, although this has not been officially confirmed. Legal procedures are ongoing, and efforts are being made to delve deeper into the alleged corruption.
