An Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi has reissued non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan, the sister of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, and her two guarantors in connection with the November 2024 protest. The court also issued a show-cause notice to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Rawal for failing to execute the arrest warrants against Aleema Khan and ordered the arrest of the guarantors, Nadeem Bilal and Wahid Mehmood.
The court directed the SP Rawal to provide an explanation for not apprehending Aleema Khan despite the court’s orders. Additionally, the court instructed the arrest of Aleema Khan and her appearance before it on February 4 after rejecting her plea for exemption from court attendance. The case, related to a protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad on November 24, 2024, was filed at Sadiqabad Police Station.
Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had called for protests on November 24, 2024, demanding the restoration of the party’s electoral mandate and the release of detained PTI members. The protest, held at D-Chowk in Islamabad, led to a state operation against demonstrators, causing the PTI leadership to disperse. Imran Khan, who has been in prison since August 2023, faces various charges, including corruption and terrorism, following his removal from power in 2022.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) recently filed a petition at the Sindh High Court against the alleged detention of over 180 party workers during raids in Karachi and other parts of Sindh under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance. PTI accused the Sindh police of conducting early morning raids, detaining party members, a claim refuted by the Sindh government. The petitioners have urged the court to declare the MPO order dated February 1 as invalid and to release the detained party workers.
