Australia’s experienced pace bowlers, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, are expected to be part of the country’s preliminary squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup despite ongoing injury worries. Head coach Andrew McDonald revealed that Cummins will undergo a back scan in four weeks to determine his fitness for the tournament starting on February 7.
Cummins, who has been dealing with a lumbar stress injury since July, made a comeback during the Ashes series but later withdrew from further matches to avoid risks. On the other hand, Hazlewood, who missed the Ashes due to hamstring and Achilles issues, is on track for a return and could provide a significant boost to Australia’s bowling attack in the T20 World Cup.
McDonald also addressed concerns about Tim David, who sustained a hamstring injury while playing in the Big Bash League. Despite this setback, McDonald expressed confidence that the 29-year-old batter will recover in time for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Australia is set to kick off their campaign against Ireland on February 11 and will engage in a T20I series in Pakistan as part of their preparations.
