Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong visited New Delhi and met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the growing India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The discussions focused on areas such as defense, trade, technology, and ensuring supply chain resilience. Both countries aim to collaborate for a free, open, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
During her visit, Wong also participated in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and engaged in bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The discussions emphasized regional security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, highlighting the significance of initiatives within the Quad framework.
In a joint press statement with Foreign Ministers of India, Japan, and the US following the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Wong underscored the commitment to delivering tangible outcomes for the Indo-Pacific region. The Quad nations are focusing on initiatives such as the Quad Ports of the Future Partnership, energy security, critical minerals, and support for port infrastructure in Fiji.
Wong further announced collaborative efforts among Quad nations to enhance cooperation against scam centers, particularly in Southeast Asia. The collective efforts also include providing undersea cables to Pacific Island Forum countries to boost economic opportunities and strengthening law enforcement and cyber cooperation in the region.
