Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, expressed anticipation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Melbourne, describing it as a significant week for bilateral relations. Green emphasized the importance of the economic and cultural aspects of PM Modi’s visit, especially highlighting the potential for strengthening trade ties between the two countries. He also mentioned the focus on cooperation in sports, arts, and culture between Australia and India.

Green noted Melbourne’s cultural significance and its role as a hub for sports, expressing eagerness for further collaboration with India in these areas. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive in Melbourne at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The visit aims to enhance the Australia-India partnership through various engagements, including the India Australia Annual Summit and interactions with business leaders.

PM Modi is expected to engage with the Indian diaspora in Melbourne and visit iconic locations such as the Melbourne Cricket Ground during his stay. His visit to Australia is part of a three-nation tour, with Jakarta being the previous stop and New Zealand as the subsequent destination. PM Modi highlighted the opportunity to deepen bilateral relations in emerging technologies, sports, and sports science during his visit to Australia.
