Australia will face Pakistan in the upcoming ODI series without Mitchell Marsh, who is sidelined due to an ankle injury. Josh Inglis will step in as the captain for the three-match series starting this Saturday. Marsh, who was set to lead in the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins, sustained the injury during the IPL and will not be part of the tour.
Cricket Australia has confirmed Marsh’s absence, with Inglis taking over the leadership role in his place for the Pakistan series. Marsh, who missed the final IPL game for Lucknow Super Giants, will undergo further assessment and treatment in Perth. His availability for the Bangladesh white-ball tour will be decided later.
With Marsh out, Australia will rely on Inglis as their fourth-choice captain, as Cummins and vice-captain Travis Head are also unavailable due to IPL commitments. Inglis has prior experience leading Australia, having captained once before against Pakistan in November 2024 when key players were absent. The team will also miss the services of pace bowlers Hazlewood, Starc, and Cummins for both the Pakistan and Bangladesh tours.
The ODI series against Pakistan is scheduled to take place in Islamabad and Lahore before Australia heads to Bangladesh for another limited-overs series. As Marsh has not been replaced in the squad yet, selectors face a decision before the opening game. The Australia squad for the Pakistan ODIs includes players like Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marnus Labuschagne, and Adam Zampa.
