Australia’s captain Sophie Molineux praised Ellyse Perry for her match-winning innings as Australia achieved the highest successful run chase in Women’s T20 World Cup history, eliminating India and securing a spot in the semifinals at Lord’s. Chasing 171 runs, Australia overcame an early setback to win by six wickets with an over to spare. Perry’s 56 off 38 balls and Ashleigh Gardner’s unbeaten 53 formed a crucial partnership that dashed India’s hopes.

Molineux highlighted Perry’s confidence in the chase, stating that Perry had assured the team during the innings break that the target was achievable. Perry’s leadership on the field, along with Gardner, set the tone for the successful chase. Molineux commended the duo for utilizing their experience and skills effectively, capitalizing on opportunities and maintaining pressure on India’s bowlers.

The Australian skipper also commended her bowling unit for containing India after a strong start, emphasizing the team’s smart management of the conditions. Despite India’s strong opening partnership and Harmanpreet Kaur’s late charge, Australia’s bowlers adapted well to the conditions at Lord’s. Molineux expressed confidence in the team’s ability to regain control during the middle overs, even after India’s strong start.

Australia advanced to the semifinals with 10 points, joining South Africa, while India’s campaign concluded despite a competitive first-innings total led by Harmanpreet’s 56 runs. The victory marked a significant milestone for Australia in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
