Authorities in Telangana’s Warangal district refuted claims of an ancient temple demolition for a school construction project. The Warangal District Collector’s office clarified that reports of the temple’s demolition in Pahadla Ashoknagar village on May 6 were inaccurate. A joint inspection on May 6 revealed remnants of an old structure during vegetation clearance for a school complex, not a demolition.
Revenue records confirmed the land as government property, not endowment land, and allocated to the Tribal Welfare Department. The Archaeology Department verified that the structure was not a protected monument or archaeological site. The structure, in a dilapidated state for long, was not in active use, as observed by the joint inspection team.
Warangal District Collector, Satya Sharada, and Narsampet MLA, D. Madhava Reddy, visited the site to ensure restoration in consultation with historians and the Archaeology Department. Efforts will be made to notify the structure with the Archaeology Department, as per the statement. The clarification followed opposition parties’ claims of demolition, demanding immediate restoration.
