Former world junior bronze medallist Ayush Shetty secured a hard-fought victory over China’s Weng Hong Yang to progress to the second round of the Indonesia Open badminton tournament. Shetty, who came back from a game down, won 8-21, 22-20, 21-15, setting up a match with Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong in the next round.
In another match, the mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani caused an upset by defeating the Chinese Taipei duo of Yang Po-Hsuan and Hu Ling Fang 21-14, 21-14. They will face defending champions Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue of France in the upcoming stage.
PV Sindhu started her Indonesia Open campaign with a victory, beating Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan 25-23, 21-16. However, Lakshya Sen faced defeat against Alwi Farhan, who had previously defeated World No. 1 Shi Yu Qi.
In the women’s singles event, PV Sindhu is set to face a tough challenge from An Se-Young to progress further. Additionally, Hariharan-Arjun will compete against Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai in their upcoming match.
