Ayushman Arogya Mandirs is intensifying efforts to combat cancer in India, as stated by Union Health Minister JP Nadda on World Cancer Day. This day, observed annually on February 4, aims to raise awareness about cancer and the technological advancements in fighting it.

India witnessed over 15.3 lakh new cancer cases in 2024, leading to around 8–8.7 lakh deaths, according to the ICMR’s National Cancer Registry estimates. This burden is part of a global scenario with 20 million new cases and 9.7 million deaths in 2022.

Emphasizing the significance of early detection and regular screenings, the Health Minister highlighted India’s measures against cancer. He also noted the recent exemption of customs duty on 17 cancer drugs in the Union Budget, making these medications more accessible.

Nadda praised the initiatives under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, such as establishing Cancer Day Care units in every district and waiving customs duties on crucial cancer medicines. He mentioned that Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are contributing significantly to the fight against cancer through widespread screenings for early detection and prompt treatment nationwide.
