Amid controversy over alleged embezzlement at Badrinath temple in Chamoli district, the Shri Badarinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has submitted an 18-page internal report to the Uttarakhand Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT). The report, based on CCTV footage from June 22 and 25, identified suspicious individuals, leading to a potential questioning by the SIT.
The Uttarakhand Police SIT is set to interrogate the suspects as part of the ongoing investigation. Additionally, the SIT has acquired the DVR with CCTV footage from June 29 and July 2 for further scrutiny. BKTC’s Chief Executive Officer, Sohan Singh Rangad, clarified that the temple treasurer has been transferred, not removed, amidst the alleged irregularities.
Rangad explained that discrepancies were found in the inventory of silver materials stored in the temple. He attributed this to a possible human error due to the larger quantity of materials found compared to the recorded amount. Denying claims of missing laptops and an ambulance donated to the temple, Rangad stated that the donated laptops were distributed among employees, and the ambulances were accounted for.
