A Bailey bridge, constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), has been inaugurated in Bhagalpur district, Bihar, a month after a section of the ‘Vikramshila Setu’ collapsed. This bridge aims to restore connectivity in the area. Bihar Minister Kumar Shailendra expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary after the bridge’s inauguration.
Chief of Project, BRO, Brigadier Amit Sakhre mentioned that after a part of the Vikramshila Setu bridge collapsed on May 3, the BRO swiftly took on the task of restoring connectivity. The construction of the first bridge began on May 16, and within 20 days, around four bridges were launched despite challenging conditions due to the intense heat in the region.
The bridge is expected to bring relief to locals who have faced difficulties since the collapse of the Vikramshila Setu. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vikas Kumar stated that traffic movement on the bridge will commence immediately, marking an end to the period where locals had to resort to boat travel and other hardships.
Superintending Engineer, BRO, Vipin Kumar Chand, emphasized the effective coordination between all levels of the system to ensure the speedy completion of the construction. DSP, Traffic, Sanjay Kumar urged the public to exercise patience and drive sensibly while crossing the bridge to facilitate smooth traffic management.
