A balcony slab collapse in Gujarat’s Sukhram Nagar slum quarters triggered a rescue operation as 58 residents were trapped in the dilapidated building. The incident occurred around 8:15 am when a portion of the G+2 building’s balcony slab gave way, blocking access to the structure. Fire brigade personnel swiftly responded to the mishap, deploying multiple rescue vehicles to the scene.

The aging and makeshift structures in the slum quarters are a common sight, raising concerns over safety. A 22-member team, including firemen and supervisors, worked efficiently to clear debris and evacuate all trapped individuals. Fortunately, all 58 residents were safely rescued, with only one woman sustaining injuries to her hands and head.

Authorities, including municipal estate department officers, were on-site to coordinate the rescue efforts. Residents voiced worries about the condition of older structures, noting visible cracks in the building prior to the collapse. Investigations into the building’s structural integrity are pending, with residents emphasizing the need for safety assessments.
