Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed the team’s desire for increased Test matches against top cricketing nations like Australia, England, and India. This appeal comes after Bangladesh secured a historic 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan, marking their first-ever home Test series win against Pakistan. Spinner Taijul Islam’s impressive performance, claiming 6-120, led Bangladesh to a 78-run win in the second Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Shanto emphasized the importance of challenging themselves against strong opponents in various conditions, both at home and away. He highlighted the need for diverse experiences to aid in the team’s development, stating that playing against a variety of teams is crucial for team building and growth. The skipper also expressed hope for the ICC to schedule more Test matches for Bangladesh against formidable opponents like Australia, England, and India.
Despite the recent success, Shanto acknowledged that Bangladesh is still a developing Test side with areas to enhance. He stressed the importance of gradual improvement and consistency in performance, aiming for a stronger team that performs well both domestically and internationally. Shanto commended his players for their hard work and contributions to the team’s achievements, noting the need for continued progress and development.
