The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) praised their men’s team for securing a historic ODI series win over the five-time World Champions. Bangladesh took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series in Mirpur, Dhaka. The victory came after a remarkable performance that saw Australia reduced to 0/3 at the end of the second over.
A brilliant bowling effort by Bangladesh helped them stun Australia in the rain-shortened second ODI. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman dismantled Australia’s top order, with the visitors struggling to score. Despite a rain interruption, Australia managed to post a modest total of 187/8 in 42 overs.
Australia’s innings got off to a disastrous start, collapsing to 0 for 3 in an extraordinary turn of events. However, a seventh-wicket partnership between Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett helped them recover. Labuschagne scored an unbeaten 55, while Bartlett contributed with a maiden ODI half-century.
In response, Bangladesh faced early setbacks in their chase but managed to steady the innings. Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto provided momentum, with Towhid Hridoy and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz guiding Bangladesh to victory. The win secured Bangladesh a 2-0 lead in the ODI series.
