A Bangladeshi national named Nondon Dash was captured by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) close to the Indo-Nepal border in West Bengal. Dash was intercepted at BIT Old Bridge in Panitanki during a routine inspection and lacked the required entry documents for India. The SSB official disclosed that Dash was seized near border pillar No. 90, approximately 350 meters from the international boundary. Among the items confiscated from him were a Bangladeshi passport, an airline boarding pass from Bangladesh to Nepal, a mobile phone, two Bangladeshi SIM cards, one Nepalese SIM card, and Rs 2,580 in Indian currency.
Dash hails from Umedpur village in Shibchar, located in Bangladesh’s Madaripur district. He informed authorities that he journeyed to Kathmandu, Nepal, on February 1, 2026, with the aid of an agent who assured him a job in Serbia. Allegedly, Dash paid the agent Rs 3-5 lakh, following which the agent disappeared. Upon the expiration of his visa, Dash found employment in Pokhara, Nepal. Subsequently, after working there for two months, he opted to return to Bangladesh through India.
There are suspicions among officials that Dash deliberately crossed into India and voluntarily surrendered to the SSB personnel due to his awareness of the repatriation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Despite this, Dash could potentially face imprisonment for unlawfully entering India. He has been transferred to the police for further legal procedures under the Foreigners Act. Recently, another Bangladeshi national was apprehended in the same vicinity under similar circumstances.
